Educational Services FAQs

How do I order a course?
If you have not been instructed to order through your training department or association, you have three options for ordering: you may use the order form on this Website, call us at 1-800-262-9699, or e-mail us at [email protected].

What if I need help with my self-study course? Is there anyone who can assist me and answer my questions?
You may e-mail the Educational Services Department at [email protected] or call toll-free at 1-800-262-9699 Monday through Friday. International students may call 1-800-262-9699. You may fax questions or comments to 1-518-891-0368. Educational Services can respond to questions regarding course content, credit, grades, and course selection. Educational Services will acknowledge receipt of all inquiries within 48 hours.

I’m on a deadline. When do I need to have my test or exam case to you in order to meet my deadline?
The date that we receive your test or exam case is the date that will be on your certificate. Educational Services does not receive mail on weekends or holidays. If you are facing a deadline, we suggest that you send your test in an overnight envelope to ensure timely receipt. The address for overnight mail only is:

American Management Association
600 AMA Way
Saranac Lake, NY 12983
Attn: AMA Self Study Program

My scannable answer form is missing—what do I do?
Each AMA Self-Study course contains everything you need to complete the course. If your scan forms are missing, take the test on the original test in your book, put your name/address/telephone number/Identification number/sponsoring organization or company name at the top, submit the original for grading, and keep a photocopy of anything you mail for your records. The scannable answer form is for multiple choice tests only. If your course contains an Examination Case, the case does not require a scan form. The case should be submitted with the cover sheet from the course book attached and filled out completely.

Where do I send my tests for grading?
Tests and cases should be mailed for grading to:

American Management Association
600 AMA Way
Saranac Lake, NY 12983
Attn: AMA Self Study Program

I purchased my course over a year ago. Can it still be graded?
Courses are required to be completed within one year of purchase. Contact Educational Services at [email protected], or 1-800-262-9699 or 1-518-891-0368 to find out if your course is still being graded.

What is the pre-test? Do I need to send it for grading?
Some, but not all, AMA self-study courses offer a pre-test. Pre-tests are the only tests that do not offer credit. If your course includes a pre-test, we suggest that you submit it for grading before you take the course. The graded pre-test will indicate which answers are incorrect so that you may concentrate on areas where you may need help or clarification. However, you can study the course material while you await your test results. Remember, if you are facing a deadline, the pre-test does not offer credit, but the accompanying post-test does.

What testing do I submit for credit?
Pre-tests are the only tests that do not offer credit. All other types of tests offer credit. (Practice Cases are provided in some courses as examples of a completed case study; they are not tests and should not be submitted for grading.) Check your catalog or this Website or contact Educational Services to find out the amount of CEU credit offered for a course. Testing components in a course may be mailed for grading together or separately.

What kind of credit will I receive?
You will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for any AMA self-study course. Check your catalog or this Website to find out the amount of credit offered for a course. Credits offer immediate recognition for your career development efforts, and help you build a permanent record of achievement. A certificate suitable for framing will be mailed to you after you have successfully completed any AMA print or audio self-study test.

Why didn’t I receive all my credit?
CEUs are awarded based on the test, NOT based on completion of the course. You will receive a separate credit certificate for each test you complete (Post, First, Final, Case).

What is a CEU?
A CEU (Continuing Education Unit) represents “Ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.” AMA awards CEUs through the sponsorship of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).

Are you an authorized CPE sponsor? What is your registry number?
As of January 2004, AMA is no longer an authorized CPE sponsor.

Can I apply the credit I receive from your courses to the university program that I am currently enrolled in?
In most cases, the CEU credits are not transferable for college credits, but some individuals have petitioned their local university or college to accept the CEUs toward elective credits.

How long will it take me to get my exam graded?
Educational Services receives and grades exams every business day. Allowing for postal delivery to and from our offices, you can plan on a 7-to-10-day turnaround for multiple-choice tests, and approximately 4 weeks for examination cases, due to their relative complexity. They will be returned to you separately.

What is a passing grade?
You will need to receive a 70% or better on any multiple-choice test, and a C- or better on any examination case to receive credit. If for any reason you do not meet the minimum passing grade requirement, you can resubmit the original testing component for regrading at no extra charge. If you require regrading, your credit date will not change.

I see that you do not accept photocopies of testing components, but can I fax my exam to you instead?
A fax, like a photocopy, will be returned to you ungraded. If you have a deadline that you must meet, we suggest that you send your test in an overnight envelope to Educational Services to ensure timely receipt.
